The
Warriors, now 10-0 on
the season, began the
day by rallying to
defeat Menlo College of
Atherton, Calif., 18-25,
25-18, 22-25, 25-19,
15-7, and then rolled
past Whitman 25-8,
25-13, 25-14 to stand as
the only undefeated team
in the tournament at
2-0. Whitworth, Montana
Western and Menlo stand
1-1 after Friday's play,
while Whitman is 0-2.
Montana Western defeated
Whitman on Friday, but
fell to Whitworth. Menlo
defeated Whitworth to
complete Friday's play.
The
two-day tournament
continues on Saturday
and has the Warriors
facing fellow Frontier
Conference member
Montana Western at 2
p.m., while the
tournament's final match
has Whitworth and LCSC
at 6 p.m.
LCSC's win over Menlo
marked only the second
time this season the
Warriors didn't win in
three straight games.
The match also featured
a school-record 39 digs
by senior Lindsay Scott
of Kennewick. Scott's
mark broke the old
record of 34 digs in a
match set by Angela Igoe
in 1998 and tied a year
later by Joy Dunn.
Despite the record, the
Warriors had their hands
full against Menlo,
hitting a season low
.124 in the match, but
holding Menlo to a .080
hitting percentage.
"Menlo is a great team
and we didn't execute
very well," LCSC coach
Jen Greeny said. "We
were not very smooth in
this match."
Josi Lyman and Anile
Clemente had 15 kills
apiece for the Warriors,
while Julie Maciboba
added 10. Freshman Abby
Bruya had 30 assists,
while Scott added three
service aces to go along
with her school record
in digs. Clemente added
21 digs, while Katie
Hinrichs had 20.
Menlo, which hit a
negative 0.33 in the
final game, fell to 2-3
on the season.
The
Warriors had a much
easier time against
Whitman. LCSC hit .296
for the match while
Whitman was at minus
.028. LCSC also was
credited for seven
blocks, while Whitman
had none.
Maciboba led the
Warriors with 11 kills,
while Clemente had
eight. Bruya had a
team-leading 17 assists,
while Lisa Davis had 14.
The Warriors also
amassed 12 service aces,
including three each
from Maciboba, Scott and
Clemente. Scott also had
20 digs, while Clemente
added 14. Austyn Lewis
added a game-high 3.5
blocks.
"We
played pretty well in
the second match, but we
will need to get our
offense going tomorrow
(Saturday) if we want to
be successful," Greeny
said. "We have to play
better."
Today's action is the
final of three straight
tournaments for the
Warriors. LCSC will kick
off the Frontier
Conference season on
Thursday when it plays
host to Montana Tech at
7 p.m. at the LCSC
Activity Center.
