Career & Advising Services Focus
The primary focus of Career & Advising Services is to serve current LCSC students
and alumni. The following information pertains to those services that are offered to
our academic community. For non-students or alumni of other institutions, please refer to
Services to Non-Students.
Career Exploration:
CAS provides a wide array of opportunities for students who are undecided about their
academic/career choice or want to confirm the choice they have made. A few of these
opportunities are provided through the following avenues:
- Career Exploration workshop
- Career Development class (spring semesters)
- DISCOVER program (a computer-based exploration program)
- CAS Library materials covering a wide variety of exploration topics
- Individual career assessment and counseling
Job Search
A large focus of CAS is assisting students with the search for employment. From resume
critique to placement bulletins, we provide opportunities for students to learn search
techniques and to acquire employment. As follows are a few examples:
- Workshops on Resume & Cover Letter Preparation, Interview Techniques, and Conducting
The Off-Campus Job Search
- CAS Library resources in all facets of the search
- Individual resume critiques and job search consultation with counselors
- Job Match program and Work Study position listings (assisting students with finding work
while in school)
- On-line placement bulletin
- Credential files for LCSC graduates
Graduate School Preparation
Part of a student's career development may include entrance (or at least exploration)
into advanced education. CAS offers the following services that will assist students in
their search for the right graduate school:
- Workshop on Applying to Graduate School
- Information on graduate school entrance exams
- CAS Library resources on selection of and applying to graduate school
Special Events
Throughout the year, CAS may offer special events to assist students in career
development. Some of the events we have offered in the past are:
- Career Fair
- Mock Interview Day
- Gaining The Competitive Edge in the Interview Meal
- Professional Attire Presentation (Dressing For A Successful Interview)
- Invited Speakers on the Future of the Job Market
- On-campus interviewing by employers
- Class presentations

Career & Advising Services Advisory Committee
Advisory Committee Function
The CAS Advisory Committee consists of approximately 12-15 people who serve individual
terms of 2 years. The members provided feedback regarding the many functions of the office
of Career & Advising Services. The committee consists of local and regional employers,
academic and technical faculty, students, and CAS office staff. The committee meets once
each semester and is invited to participate in many CAS functions and events.
Advisory Committee Mission
The mission of the Career & Advising Services Advisory Committee is to
provide feedback regarding services; suggestions to improve activities and events; and
assistance in promoting positive relations between Career & Advising Services and
Lewis-Clark State College faculty, students and the larger Lewiston/Clarkston community.
