MTOBT 140 - Inventory Management (3 cr.)This will give students necessary skills to effectively manage inventory to maximize sales and profits. Discussion and practice of the most current methods of inventory management will provide in-depth awareness and experience needed for such positions in industry. MTOBT 160 - Distribution Systems (3 cr.)Offers students exposure to and experience with various forms of transportation, tracking, handling, and shipping and receiving methods used in business to get the product from the raw state to the finished product in the ultimate consumer's hands. MTOBT 170 - Catalog Sales and Service(3 cr.)Designed to give the students experience in a live-shop. The students will receive their training while providing actual service to Technical and Industrial programs that utilize the parts and supplies counter in their labs. This live-shop method of instruction combines real-life issues and academic concepts with immediate learning opportunities. MTOBT 205 - Small Business Management (3 cr.)Studies basic factors involved in initiating and managing a business enterprise. Emphasis on business objectives, failure and success factors, problems of a new business, locations, facilities, staffing, planning, and financing. Students will related these factors to local business operations and will develop a business plan. MTOBT 220 - Supervision (3 cr.)This course is designed to prepare students for a role as a front line supervisor. It is intended to be a capstone course for any business-type program. Concept applications include employee motivation, hiring, firing, development, mentoring, organization, and many other contemporary issues. MTOBT 235 - Sourcing and Purchasing (3 cr.)This is a follow-up course to Catalog Sales and Service. It will cover most of the same issues but more from the management perspective. It will include more skills in looking for the hard-to-get parts, supplies, products, etc. at the more effective price. It will also look into the costs of materials, products, and make-or-buy decisions. There is much more emphasis put on increasing profits by reducing costs. Production scheduling will be briefly covered. Suggested pre-requisite: MTOBT 205. MTOBT 265 - Logistics Management (3 cr.)This course is developed as a capstone course for the Inventory Management Program, which gives an in-depth look at how all the details of operating a business must be addressed to ensure long-term health and profitability of a business. These details will include, but not limited to, customer service, materials flows, distribution, controls, planning, etc. |
