OVERVIEW
Distance Learning (DL) facilitates delivery of instruction and services to faculty, students, staff and businesses in the following areas:

• Internet Instruction
• Interactive Video Conferencing (IVC)/Satellite
• Hybrid Instruction
• Lecture-Web Enhanced Instruction

INTERNET INSTRUCTION

DL Internet instruction provides students who have time and geographic constrains with an alternative method to participate in a variety of courses. Faculty members have designed courses to be more flexible for students who have difficulty attending traditionally scheduled offerings. While there are usually no structured class meetings times, most courses have required due dates for assignments and exams; few courses are self-paced. Divisions schedule course offerings that follow the same academic calendar dates and registration procedures as traditional classes. Instruction is delivered via Internet, recorded media, e-mail, video streaming, and text. Materials are available for check out from the DL office or Outreach Centers; computers are also available for students to use at these same locations. Students need up-to-date technological capabilities to access the Internet to complete assignments, participate in individual and group discussions with the instructor, and participate in peer group activities. DL Internet courses require the same achievement level as traditional courses; performance requirements and specific competencies are outlined for each course in the syllabus. Refer to DL homepage (http://www.lcsc.edu/dl) for specific course information, class schedules, and information on technical requirements and technical assistance. Success in a DL Internet course is dependent upon a student being self-motivated, self-directed, and possessing strong computer, reading, study and time management skills. Students are expected to accept major responsibility for course completion.

HYBRID INSTRUCTION
Hybrid instruction utilizes both classroom and Internet instruction. Students may meet in person on campus and complete their assignments and discussions online. Hybrid courses require the same achievement level as traditional courses; performance requirements and specific competencies are outlined for each course in the syllabus.

INTERACTIVE VIDEO CONFERENCING
Interactive Video Conferencing (IVC) uses electronic transmission to one or more sites. Multi-point locations are connected through a Telecommunications Bridge located on campus. Participants at one location can see and hear those at other locations using television screens as if everyone were sitting in the same room. Participants may use a variety of media including videotapes, audiotapes, e-mail, telephone, fax, Internet, computer software, print, computer graphics, slides and overheads. Classes or meetings can be conducted without having to travel long distances. Currently three on-campus sites are available:

• Sam Glenn Complex, Room 210
• Wittman Complex, Room 120
• Activity Center West, Room 133

SATELLITE
LCSC has the ability to receive satellite transmission at several on-campus locations. This technology does not allow for two-way interaction.

LECTURE-WEB ENHANCED INSTRUCTION
This type of instruction combines traditional classroom lecture with online enhancements and allows for select course materials to be accessed online. The purpose of this delivery method is to enhance traditional classroom lectures with an online course management system.
