LCSC shines during Higher Education Week
Lewis-Clark State College College President Dene K. Thomas drew high marks from both legistlators and key personnel in the state education and governor's offices for her remarks in presentations to both the Joint Finance Appropriation Committee and to the House Education Committee this week in Boise.
Thomas joined other LCSC administrators, staff and faculty in Boise this week for Higher Education Week with the Idaho Legislature.
Events kicked off early Monday morning with the State Board of Education’s budget presentation to the Legislature’s Joint Finance Appropriations Committee at 8 a.m. This committee is comprised of both members of the Idaho House and Senates and it is where financial decisions are made. JFAC decides how much money will be appropriated to each budget in the state, including how much money higher education will receive.
On Monday night, LCSC administrators, faculty and staff took part in the ICHEF reception for Legislators at the Convention Center. This reception gives people in higher education a chance to talk with legislators about higher education issues.
On Tuesday, it was LCSC Day on the third-floor rotunda of the Capitol Building. LCSC representatives had display board about the college and greeted both visitors and Legislators to inform them about what is happening at LCSC.
Also on Tuesday morning, Thomas made her annual presentation to the Legislative's Joint Finance Appropriations Committee (JFAC). She used a similar power point presentation that she made during the all-campus meeting earlier this month. Prior to her presentation, Thomas and Polly Blasko, Director of College Advancement, handed out cookies in the shape of a baseball with the LC lettering on them to each member of JFAC.
On Tuesday evening, LCSC held a function for Boise-area alumni at 5:30-7 p.m. at Café Bardenay, located on 610 Grove St.
Wednesday morning, President Thomas made her presentation to the House Education Committee.
After both presentations, several legislators and key government personnel in attendance complimented both Thomas and LCSC.
