Three students are nominated for acting competition

Three Lewis-Clark State College students have been nominated to compete in the Irene Ryan Acting Competition Scholarship program for their recent performances in the LCSC production of “Snapshots.”

The competition will be held next spring as part of the Region VII’s American College Theatre Festival at the University of Wyoming in Laramie.

The nominees are senior Chris Aronen, junior Valerie Bramell, and freshman Mike Wilson, all of Lewiston. Sophomore Dani Diaz, also of Lewiston, has been selected as an alternate. All four students are majoring in Interdisciplinary Studies.

The entire cast of “Snapshots” also earned a Certificate of Merit award for Excellence in Ensemble Work from the Kennedy Center American College Theatre Festival Organization (KCACTF). Joining the four above in the cast of “Snapshots” were Deb Emerich, Calandra Dell, and Rosa Bautista of LCSC, and University of Idaho student David Hathaway.

LCSC’s theatre program participates in the KCACTF, which sponsors regional and national competitions for college and universities to recognize excellence in acting, directing, playwriting, set, light, and costume design.

Two theatre instructors from KCACTF's Region VII responded to a “Snapshots” performance last week and, along with director, Paul Kalina, nominated the students to compete next spring. Each nominee will also choose an acting partner for the competition so six LCSC students from this production will make the trip.

“Snapshots” is an original play by David Eames-Harlan and is based on the memories of 12 LC students with histories that embrace the region. It was the second production since LCSC reinstated a theater minor last fall.
