Dogwood Festival runs April 2-30
Grammy Award winning band from Ireland, an artist fair, various sporting activities, beer and wine tasting, a car show, and a children’s art show highlight the events at the 23rd annual Dogwood Festival, which will be held in the month of April at various locations in the Lewiston-Clarkston Valley.
The festival, which runs April 2-30, features events for people of all ages. The festival is named after the Dogwood trees, which are in full bloom with bright colors during April.
The festival has been recognized as one of the top 100 events of its type in the nation by the American Bus Association.
The annual Dogwood Festival Concert is set for April 27 at the Lewis-Clark State College Activity Center and features Gaelic Storm, one of Ireland’s top party bands. The concert begins at 8 p.m. and all seats are general admission. Tickets are $30 for the floor or $20 for the bleachers if purchased ahead of time, or $35 and $25 respectively, on the day of the concert. Tickets are available at TicketsWest Outlets, including at the LCSC Activity Center. Tickets can be purchased online at www.ticketswest.com, or by calling (208) 792-2471, or 1-800-325-SEAT. Tickets are subject to a service charge.
The annual Art Under the Elms, which features fine arts, entertainment, family fun, and plenty of food, will be held April 27-29 on the LCSC campus. Artists will show of their ceramics, glassware, photography, jewelry, and paintings with nearly 100 artisan booths. The Family Fun Faire features face painting, bouncing castles, rock walls and other fun games for children of all ages. There will be artist demonstrations and several musical performances in the LCSC Student Union Building Amphitheater area. Food vendors also will offer a variety of meals.
Admission prices are $2 for a three-day pass or $1 for LCSC students with valid student ID cards. The hours are noon-6 p.m. on April 27, 10 a.m.-6 p.m. on April 28, and 10 a.m.-4 p.m. on April 29.
Last year, more than 12,000 visited the three-day event.
The Stephen Lyman Festival of Children’s Art will kick off the Dogwood Festival on April 15 and the exhibit will run through April 30 in the upper floor of the LCSC Center for Arts & History, located at 415 Main Street. The exhibit will feature selected work from regional elementary school children. The hours of the Center are 11 a.m.-4 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday.
The 17th annual Confluence Grape & Grain will be held on April 20 at the LCSC Center for Arts & History at 6-9 p.m. Tickets are $25 and attendees must be at least 21 years of age. Ticket holders will be able to sample seven tastes of featured Pacific Northwest wines and micro-brews. Everyone attending also will receive a souvenir wine or beer glass.
Also on April 20 will be the Twilight 5K Run & Walk, which begins at 7 p.m. The 3.1-mile course is along the Lewiston levee and starts and finishes near the Kiwanis Park shelter. Awards will be presented to the overall winners and medals to the top three finishers in each 10-year age group.
The Run & Walk has an entry fee of $12 which includes a T-shirt, or $8 without a T-shirt, prior to April 13. On April 14, the price goes up to $16 and $10, respectively.
The Dogwood Dunk 3-on-3 Basketball Tournament will take place April 21 starting at 9 a.m. in the parking lots on the LCSC campus. The registration fee per team is $60 prior to April 1, or $65 after. There will be T-shirts for all participants and awards for the first-place team in each classification. Concessions will be available.
The Dogwood Festival Show & Shine will be held April 28. Sponsored by the LC Valley New Auto Dealers Association, the show attracts more than 125 classic cars. Exhibitors receive a souvenir dash plaque and there is a $250 Sponsor’s Choice Award for the top vehicle. The show runs 9 a.m.-4 p.m. on the LCSC campus walkways.
The registration fee to enter a car in the show is $10, which includes a two-person pass for Art Under the Elms.
Also on April 28 is the 30th annual Seaport River Run, which begins at Clarkston’s Swallows Park and finishes at Hells Gate State Park in Lewiston. The fun run/walk has a 2.9-mile or a 6.2-mile course and begins at 10 a.m. The registration fee is $15 with a T-shirt or $6 without prior to April 18, or $17 and $7, respectively, after that date.
The Warrior Athletic Association two-person golf scramble will be held on April 28 at Lewiston’s Bryden Canyon Golf Tournament. A shot-gun start beings play at 8 a.m. and the cost is $45 per player, which includes a cart, green fees, tee prizes and a free admission pass to any remaining regular-season LCSC baseball game. Members of a team may not have handicap spread of more than 10. All proceeds will benefit the WAA and Warrior athletics at LCSC.
The 22nd annual Seaport Quilters Guild Exhibition will be held April 28-29 at Clarkston High School’s Kramer Gym. The show features more than 200 quilts, artist demonstrations and door prizes. The hours are 9 a.m.-4 p.m. on April 28, and 10 a.m.-4 p.m. on April 29. Admission is $3.
