LCSC club schedules Cesar Chavez Day events
Organización Estudiantes Latinos Americanos, the Latino American club at Lewis-Clark State College, will hold Cesar Chavez Day on Tuesday, April 3, with a presentation at 11:30 a.m.-1 p.m. at the Student Union Building Solarium.
The event is free and open to the public.
Chavez was a Mexican American farm worker, labor leader, and civil rights activist who co-founded the National Farm Workers Association, which later became the United Farm Workers. His work led to numerous improvements for union workers.
Margo Aragon from KLEW-TV in Lewiston, will talk about the life of Chavez and his contributions to society. A video series will be shown on Chavez, and there will be a timeline display of his life. Also, LCSC students Paloma Lira and Guillermo Raya will discuss their project, “Student Action with Farm Workers.”
To celebrate the day, OELA also is holding a food drive and have placed bins around the college for food donations, which will go to area food banks. OELA is encouraging everyone to wear red that day and will be selling red wristbands for $2 apiece that say “Si Se Puede” (Yes, it can be done). There also will be a raffle for a Starbucks gift basket.
For more information on the day, contact the LCSC College Assistance Migrant Program office at (208) 792-2133.
