ISBDC offers several training sessions

The Region II Idaho Small Business Development Center will hold nine training sessions at Lewis-Clark State College during the next three months to help business owners and workers in their work environment and improve their skills.

The sessions range from computer security and identify theft prevention to how to motivate employees.

Computer Security and Identity Theft Prevention;

Wednesday, April 11, 6-9 p.m. LCSC Administration Building, Room 12

Instructor: Jerry Hindberg,

Fee: $10

Learn how to feel comfortable and safe on the Internet by protecting yourself and your computer from internet scams, identity theft, and viruses. Topics to be covered include antivirus software, anti-spyware, operating system updates, and internet browser updates, application software updates, installing a firewall and using strong passwords.

How to Start a Business Boot Camp;

Do you want to start a business but don’t know where to begin? This workshop will give you an overview of the things necessary to start a business. Topics included are: self-employment assessment, business feasibility, initial market research, start-up expense/financial feasibility, choosing a business structure, obtaining financing, determining regulations, setting prices, creating marketing materials, and developing a business plan.

QuickBooks; (two class session)

Monday-Tuesday, April 30-May 1, 6-9 p.m., LCSC Administration Building Room 12

Instructor: Judy Schumacher

Fee: $25

Need to learn a great record keeping and management system? This QuickBooks workshop will teach you how to successfully maneuver through the entire program. This workshop begins with how to set up a company, working with lists and bank accounts, credit card transactions, and balance sheet accounts. The second session will include entering sales, receiving payments, making deposits, entering and paying bills, setting up inventory, and doing payroll.

This class will cover topics such as how to develop job descriptions, effective interview questions, how to hire the right people, creative ways to reward employees, and how to fire an employee.

This workshop will cover marketing skills including basic marketing techniques, internet strategies, and tips for success. This workshop will look at businesses as a customer sees it and help those attending understand why customers buy or don’t buy from them. The session also shows helpful ways to encourage people to make purchases.
