LCSC-CdA held commencement on Sunday
Lewis-Clark State College-Coeur d'Alene awarded 114 degrees and certificates during its graduation ceremony, which was held Sunday at the North Idaho College campus.
The hour-long ceremony was led by LCSC President Dene Thomas. Joining her on the state were Provost Tony Fernandez, Chair of the Faculty Association Leanne Parker, President of the Alumni Association Danielle Hardy, State Board of Education member Sue Thilo, and Associated Students of LCSC-Coeur d'Alene Chair Kate Bales.
Kelly Vanderlinden, Program Assistant for Community Programs in LCSC-CdA, sang the national anthem and played the piano during commencement prelude, and was joined by Cathyanne Nonini on the violin.
Thomas told the students it is their duty to tell their stories to inspire others. She highlighted two particular students, including an 18-year-old Sandpoint male, who earned his degree. He graduated from high school last spring and while in high school, earned enough dual credits to also graduate from NIC. He then took 20-plus credits last summer, during the fall, and then this spring, more than 60 all together during the year, to earn his bachelor's degree.
Thomas also described a non-traditional student who earned her degree after six years while raising six children as a single parent and also working more than 40 hours a week.
