LCSC women sign JC guard

Lewis-Clark State College women’s basketball coach Brian Orr announced that Breianna Gaines (Seattle, WA / Shoreline CC/ Roosevelt HS), has signed a letter of intent to attend the college and play basketball in the fall. She will enroll as a junior and have two years of eligibility.

“Breianna is a very talented player and we feel fortunate that she chose Lewis-Clark State,” said Orr. “She is extremely athletic and we really like her court savvy. Offensively she can do it all – hit the three, penetrate and finish, and she can even score in the low post with her back to the basket. She will definitely be a difficult match-up for opponents.”

A 5-foot-10 guard, Gaines averaged 23.4 points per game as a freshman at Shoreline Community College before suffering a season-ending injury. She did not play last year while finishing her degree at SCC.

Gaines averaged 16 points per game her senior year at Roosevelt High School and led the team in rebounding averaging over 10 boards per game. She helped lead the Rough Riders to the 2004 Class 4A girl’s state championship, which is the focus of the documentary, “Heart of the Game.”

“Breianna spent this past spring in Lewiston and played with our girls every day,” continued Orr. “She has fit in really well and we expect her to play an important role on next year’s team.”

Gaines joins Sadie Short (Walla Walla Community College) and Nichole Miller (Curlew High School) in this year’s recruiting class for the Warriors, who finished 31-3 and won their second consecutive Frontier Conference title.
