LCSC women's basketball team earns academic honor
The Lewis-Clark State College women’s basketball program continues to receive honors for its remarkable 2006-07 season. The latest honor comes from the Women’s Basketball Coaches Association for the Warriors’ work in the classroom.
LCSC was named to the WBCA’s Academic Top 25 Team Honor Roll for NAIA schools. The awards recognize teams throughout the nation that have the highest grade point averages (GPA) for the 2006-2007 season based upon nominations submitted by WBCA-member coaches.
The Warriors, under coach Brian Orr, had the 17th highest GPA among all NAIA schools at 3.358. The team also enjoyed one of its most successful years on the court, finishing as Frontier Conference champions, a 31-3 record, and a No. 2 ranking for most of the season.
“Just like on the floor it was a total team effort,” Orr says. “Every player on our roster finished with a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher and that is pretty special. They all have the mind-set that being a good student is a critical element when we determine the success of our basketball program.”
