N&HS announces new leadership roles
The Division of Nursing & Health Sciences is pleased to report that the following faculty members have been appointed to new roles within the division for Academic Year 2007-2008. All are outstanding professionals and we are pleased to have them on our leadership team.
Debbie Lemon, Practical Nursing Director: Debbie has taught in the PN program for the past three years. In 2006 she completed a Master in Nursing degree focused on community based/population nursing with an emphasis in nursing education. Her master’ project focused on barriers of licensed practical nurses seeking registered nurse preparation. Debbie previously taught for Walla Walla Community College and has extensive experience in long term care. She will play a major role in introducing simulation equipment into our various curricula. Debbie’s warm and caring personality along with a strong commitment to student success are a perfect fit with her new roles.
Marilyn Heckendorn, BSN Director: Marilyn Heckendorn, BSN Director: Marilyn has taught in the BSN program for seven years. Her Master of Science (nursing) degree is from University of Colorado Health Sciences Center with an emphasis on nursing administration. Marilyn taught previously for Larimer County Community College and University of Northern Colorado. She has been course lead faculty, level coordinator, and member of the BSN curriculum redesign committee. Marilyn is active across campus, recently serving as chair of STPRC and co-chair of WebCT Users Group. Marilyn's attention to detail, strong organizational skills, and high standards will serve her well in this new position.
Dr. Mary Lou Robinson, Assistant to the Chair: Dr. Mary Lou Robinson has been a member of the LCSC faculty since 1994. She holds a Master of Science in Nursing degree from Idaho State University. Her PhD (Education) with an emphasis on Education & Wellness is from the University of Idaho. Her dissertation was titled Determining Bone Health in Adolescent Girls. Dr. Robinson has served as LCSC Faculty Senate/Association Chair and on many committees across the college and within the division. Last year she was selected to receive the LCSC Foundation’s Outstanding Faculty Award. She was recently awarded an Idaho Technology Incentive grant to purchase a heal ultrasound machine which will allow her to continue her research efforts in the area of bone density and osteoporosis. Mary Lou’s knowledge of the campus communities and of our local agencies as well as her professionalism are evident in all she does.
Sharon Strand, Coeur d’Alene Outreach Coordinator: Sharon earned her BSN at California State, Long Beach and her MSN from California State, Dominguez Hills. She has been involved in various aspects of nursing education since 1988. Her most recent educational experience is from Boise State University where she taught for 9 years. Sharon’s areas of interest are pediatrics and public/community health. Sharon has a strong commitment to meet the needs of the RN to BSN students in the northern part of the state. She has already begun to meet with agency leaders and is especially focused on reaching to new students. Her enthusiasm, extensive educational experience, and expertise in web-based course delivery will serve students and our programs well.
