Cheff named ABCA's Region I Coach of the Year

Lewis-Clark State College baseball coach Ed Cheff has been named the American Baseball Coaches Association/Diamond Sports Company NAIA Region I Coach of the Year for 2007.

Cheff, who led the Warriors to their 15th Avista NAIA World Series national title in the last 24 years, will be honored during the ABCA National Convention in Philadelphia on Jan. 4.

LCSC posted a 58-5 record this past season and was the top-ranked team in the NAIA throughout the year. The Warriors went undefeated in the 10-team double-elimination World Series to capture the title. The Warriors had an all-time high of eight players selected in the Major League Baseball draft in June, including Beau Mills, who was the 13th selection overall by Cleveland.

Cheff, who has a career record of 1,559-403-2 over 31 years, has been named the NAIA’s Coach of the Year seven times and was inducted into the ABCA Hall of Fame in 2006.
