LCSC increases Presidential Scholarships; adds Provost Scholarships
Lewis-Clark State College administrators have approved a request to double the amount of Presidential Scholarships to $1,000 per year and these students will receive an additional $500 for their freshmen year, college officials have announced.
The Presidential Scholarship is renewable for four years.
“Even though LCSC is the lowest-costs four-year public institution in Idaho, costs have been rising, and it's time to give students more help with college costs,” LCSC President Dene K. Thomas said. “We want to help students achieve their goals.”
To be eligible for the Presidential Scholarship, students must graduate from an Idaho high school and enroll at LCSC in the semester immediately following high school graduation. Students also must complete the admission process by March 1, be degree-seeking students, have a high school GPA of at least 3.50, and take at least 12 credits per semester at LCSC.
College officials also have created a new scholarship program, which has been named the Provost’s Scholarship. This scholarship will follow the same guidelines and rules as the Presidential Scholarship except the GPA is lowered to 3.00 – 3.49.
The Provost’s Scholarship replaces the Freshman Scholarship and will be worth $500 for each the freshman and sophomore years.
“Lewis-Clark State College is a champion for student access to higher education and these scholarships represent one of the many ways we are showing it,” LCSC Dean of Student Service Andrew Hanson said.
Both scholarships are disbursed on a semester basis, meaning students will receive half of the amount each semester. Each scholarship will be renewed if the student achieves at least a 3.0 GPA and completes at least 12 credits each semester at LCSC.
