Workshop will look at gender and power in the workplace
11/08/07 The Lewis-Clark State College Workforce Training program is holding a workshop, "Deciphering Gender & Power in the Workplace,” which will be presented Janet Mills, on Dec. 13 at 9 a.m. at the Clarkston Quality Inn.
Mills is a well-known educator among Idaho state agencies as an instructor in the Certified Public Manager program and a consultant. She holds a joint appointment at Boise State University in the Department of Public Policy and Administration and the Department of Communication. Her expertise in gender and communication in the workplace enlightens and delights audiences from coast to coast.
She will discuss how men and women speak different body language and use nonverbal communication differently, with different ends in mind. The workshop will present dozens of ideas to enhance a person’s effectiveness in the mixed gender workplace, and discover postures, gestures, body orientations, interpersonal space and distance, facial displays, touching behaviors, voice and emotional expressions to communicate. Participants will also gain insight and skills to use body language to communicate more effectively with others.
The registration fee is $95, which includes a “Little Italy” lunch buffet. Seating is limited and the registration deadline is at 5 p.m. on Dec. 5.
