LCSC First Book takes part in Christmas fundraiser
The Lewis-Clark State College First Book Advisory Board is taking part in a national First Book fundraiser to help the organization purchase books for children.
This is the third consecutive year First Book, an award-winning nonprofit organization, and Borders Group, Inc., have joined together for a holiday giving campaign.
Running through Dec. 24, customers at Borders and Waldenbooks stores will be encouraged to donate $1, $3, $5 or more to First Book as they make their holiday purchases. The funds donated by Borders and Waldenbooks customers will be converted to gift cards and distributed to local organizations affiliated with First Book to purchase books for the children they serve.
First Book – LCSC Campus Advisory Board is part of a national network of First Book Advisory Boards that provide new books to children in need in communities across the country. Comprised of volunteers from all sectors of the community, First Book – LCSC Campus Advisory Board works to promote and facilitate the distribution of new books to programs in the Asotin-Anatone School District, the Lewiston Independent School District, Lapwai District, Kamiah Joint District and other districts as far south as White Bird, including helping to grant the funds raised in the 2007 Borders and Waldenbooks holiday giving campaign.
In the past 3 years, First Book – LCSC Advisory Board has distributed over 23,000 books to local programs serving low-income children such as YWCA Reading Program, Lewis Clark Early Childhood Education, and Grantham Elementary Grizzly Readers. In the past two years, First Book-LCSC has received $3000 in Waldenbooks gift cards.
The recipients of these gift cards were: Webster Elementary, Asotin – Anatone School District and the Lapwai and Kamiah Early Childhood Education Program.
Borders Group’s holiday fundraising effort in 2006 for First Book raised more than $780,000 through customer donations and a corporate gift. Since its’ founding in 1992, First Book has distributed more than 50 million books to children in low-income families.

Take this opportunity to empower our children by visiting Waldenbooks at the Palouse Empire Mall in Moscow and donate $1 or more to help our schools, libraries and local organizations such as the Boys and Girls Club, YWCA and Head Start to provide brand new books to our children,” said Jasmine Petersen of the First Book LCSC Advisory Board.
