Note from IT on new student e-mail account
Hello All
The I.T. department has an exciting 6 months ahead of us. The students will be receiving a new email system this summer. The Go-Live date is set for July 1, 2008.
Numerous questions have come into the helpdesk about LCwarriormail.
-LCwarriormail will be used for the spring semester and remain the official communication to students.
We will have pilot courses running with Gmail. Results will be distributed at the end of the semester. Some of the testing will be file attachment size, calendaring features, collaboration with the documents and spreadsheets, with one assignment requiring no verbal communication among the students. They are to collaborate online and create a single document for the assignment.
I will be sending out some information about changing your departmental policies to reflect the new email system. The goal is to not create new policies. We want to update our current policies along with the references on web pages to reflect the new email system.
Some important dates:
January 25 – Decision on new domain and reference name
March 27 – New students for Fall 2008 will receive Gmail accounts instead of LCwarriormail
April 1 – Gmail accounts will be accessible for all students
June 30 – Termination of LCwarriormail access.
July 1 – Go Live with new student email system.
Important Note: LCSC owns the LCwarriormail.com domain. On June 30, we will point the MX record to the Google application. This means after this date, an email sent to a student’s lcwarriormail.com address will show up in their Google account.
I will be sending out periodic updates. You can view information and the project status at http://www.lcsc.edu/it under the “New Items” section.
Please let me know if you have any questions.
