Professional-Technical Preview Day is Feb. 12
01-12-08 More than 20 public and private high schools in the north central Idaho and southeastern Washington areas will participate in the annual Lewis-Clark State College Professional-Technical Preview Day on Feb. 12 on the LCSC campus.
The event, which showcases 18 professional and technical programs offered at the college, annually attracts more than 400 high school juniors and seniors to give them an opportunity to preview a variety of careers in professional and technical fields. The event is held each year during Professional-Technical Education Week.
Students will have the opportunity to preview two 30-minute presentations on different programs, or one 60-minute program presentation. The programs that will be previewed are Administrative Medical Assistant, Bookkeeping, Business Management, Business Technology, Early Childhood Development, Graphic Arts/Printing Technology, Legal Assistant/Paralegal, Web Development and Computing, Hospitality Management, Auto Mechanics Technology, Automated Manufacturing Technology, Collision Repair, Diesel Technology, Engineering Technology, Industrial Electronics Technology, Informational Systems Analysis, Welding Technology, and Heating, Air Conditioning & Appliance Technology.
Student will arrive on the LCSC campus at 9 a.m. and will gather at the Activity Center where they will receive packets and fill out information cards. At 9:30 a.m., the event kicks off with a welcome session, including a welcome address from Rob Lohrmeyer, Dean for Professional-Technical Programs at LCSC.
Also, the winner of the Professional-Technical Preview Day poster contest will be announced. The contest was for high school students to design a poster to help promote the event. The winner of the contest will be recognized and will receive a $50 gift certificate, while the teacher of the student will receive a $100 gift certificate to be used for classroom supplies and materials.
Students had the option of submitting scholarship applications and two students from the application pool will be selected to receive $500 scholarships during the Welcome Session.
After the welcome session, students will be divided into two groups. The first group will leave the Activity Center at approximately 9:45 a.m. and take part in the preview of programs. The second group will remain at the Activity Center and listen to a Tech-Prep presentation. This group will tour of the campus and also visit local industry booths and exhibitions set up by vendors and businesses in the Professional-Technical fields.
At 11:05 a.m., the two groups will meet back up at the Activity Center and will switch with the other group. The first group that previewed the programs earlier will stay at the Activity Center and will hear the Tech Prep presentation, then tour the campus and visit the industry booths, while the second group will preview the programs.
At 12:45, all students, counselors, and teachers will meet back at the Activity Center for pizza. The event then concludes at around 1:15 p.m.
Preview Day attracts students from area public high schools as well as students who are home-schooled or attend charter and private schools.
Sponsors for Preview Day include the Associated Students of LCSC, Idaho Impressions, Kenworthy Sales Company, Lake City Trucks, LCSC Student Services, Tri-State Memorial Hospital, St. Joseph’s Regional Medical Center, LCSC Center for New Directions, Regence BlueShield of Idaho, and Western States Equipment.
