Men's basketball team to hold dollar auction
The Lewis-Clark State College men’s basketball program will hold its second annual Dollar Auction on April 12, starting at 5 p.m. in the Ketch Pen at the Lewiston Roundup Grounds.
Tickets for the event are $15, which includes dinner and drinks. Drinks available include beer, wine, and soft drinks.
The cocktail hour begins at 5 p.m., followed by dinner at 6 p.m., and the dollar and silent auction at 7 p.m.
During this dollar auction, a person with his back to the audience will set a pre-determined amount of time for an auction item to be up for bid. The time, which will be accompanied by music, will range from 20 to 90 seconds. There will be two runners at each table and they will have table number signs in their hands. When an item goes up for bid, anyone at the table wanting to bid on the item will hold up a dollar bill. A runners will then hold up the table number, which the auctioneer will call off. When a runner hears the number called, the runner will take a dollar bill from a bidder holding that bill in the air, and then quickly move to the next bidder at the table.
The auctioneer will call off the numbers quickly to allow dollar bills to be gathered. When the music stops, the person who held up the last dollar bill collected when time expired will win that item. If needed, a neutral judge will determine the winner.
Several donated items will be available during the auction.
A silent auction also is planned for the evening, and there will a “bank” available where attendees can cash a check or use a credit card to obtain more $1 bills.
