LCSC's Cheff to coach 2,000th game at the college

Lewis-Clark State College coach Ed Cheff will coach his 2,000th game at the Warrior helm on Tuesday in the first game of a doubleheader against the College of Idaho.

The first game is set to begin at 4 p.m. at LCSC's Harris Field. The Warriors are 29-4 overall this season and ranked No. 1 in the NAIA.

Here are some of Cheff's accomplishments at LCSC.

Overall he is currently 1,588-407-4 in his 32nd year of coaching.

He coached his first game on March 4, 1977, a 15-0 victory against Northwest Nazarene.

His teams have thrown 197 shutouts, while being shutout only 30 times (and only 7 times in the last 14 years.)

His teams went 266 straight games from 2001 to 2005 without being shutout, and 141 games from 1995 to 1998.

His longest losing streak is 5 (1979) and longest winning streak is 27 (1986).

His teams have scored 10 runs or more 890 times, 20+ runs 78 times, and 30+ runs four times.

His largest margin of victory is 31, (31-0 over College of Idaho, 1987) and 30, (36-6 against Southern Utah, 1997)

He has won at least 38 games each year, and has won 50+ games 17 times. In 1983 his Warrior team won a school-record 69 games.

His Warriors have won 15 national titles in the last 24-years, and played in the national championship game 11 consecutive years from 1982 to 1992. They have won 111 World Series games.

He has coached against 167 different teams from 42 different states and Canada.

His most wins (135) came against Central Washington, which is also the team he has coached the most games against (157). Followed by Washington State (154) and College of Idaho (134)
