Klatt explores salmon species with her exhibit at LCSC Center

Artist Eileen Klatt explores the salmon species within the Pacific Northwest river system in her exhibit “A Litany of Salmon,” which will be on display Aug. 15-Sept. 27 at the Lewis-Clark State College Center for Arts & History, located at 415 Main St. in Lewiston.
The public is invited to celebrate the opening of the exhibition on Aug. 15 at 5-8 p.m. in the Center’s Main Gallery. The event is free and open to the public, and refreshments will be served.
Klatt says her work explores the idea what has been lost regionally with regards to salmon in the Pacific Northwest river system. Each life-sized painting of two spawning salmon is dedicated to a particular river and species. The exhibit features more than 20 watercolor paintings accompanied by a written litany.
“It is an invocation to the millions of salmon that once thrived in the Columbia River Basin,” Klatt said of her exhibit, “A Litany of Salmon invokes the salmon, river by river, species by species, as it names and remembers that which we have sacrificed…”
Klatt grew up in the heart of the Columbia River Basin and received her Master of Fine Arts in painting and drawing from Washington State University in 1990. Her exhibit is the culmination of 12 years of salmon research and field work in the Columbia River Basin.
