LC Service Corps receives grant for service learning

Lewis-Clark State College’s Lewis-Clark Service Corps’ Learn and Serve program has received grant funding of $30,000 to promote service-learning, convene educators, and coordinate service-learning opportunities in the area.

The grant comes from the Washington Campus Compact, which distributed nearly $400,000 in grants to Pacific Northwest higher education institutions as part of its Learn and Serve America Higher Education grant from the Corporation from National & Community Service.

The LC Service Corps will use its grant funding to institutionalize service-learning with faculty training and development, class planning resources, support faculty research and develop service projects, including alternative spring breaks. The Corps also will develop a First Congressional District Action Team to raise awareness of service-learning and its benefits to the community and students.

Learn and Serve America, a program of the CNCS, provides support to schools, higher education institutions and community-based organizations that engage students, their teachers and others in service-learning. The CNCS is the nation's largest grantor supporting service and volunteering.

Established in 1992, Washington Campus Compact and its membership of 35 two- and four-year colleges and universities are committed to providing meaningful experiences for students to become active, engaged leaders in their communities, furthering the civic and public purposes of higher education and strengthening communities. WACC is an affiliate state office of Campus Compact, a national organization comprised of more than 1,100 higher education institutions committed to the civic and public purposes of higher education.
