Division Highlights: Humanities
Highlights from each Division at LCSC and the library will be posted on the Intranet over the next two weeks.
Today's highlights come from the Humanities Division
Humanities
New Majors:
B.A., English: Publishing Arts emphasis was approved
B.A./B.S., Business and Communication was approved (joint program with Business division)
B.A./B.S. General Studies: Humanities was approved.
Notable Activities and Events:
Rick Bass, award-winning fiction and non-fiction writer, delivered the annual Stegner Lecture
Emma Larkin, author of Finding George Orwell in Burma, traveled from Thailand to serve as our Visiting Scholar, sponsored by a generous donation from the Rosehill Estate.
Six Publishing Arts students attended the Associated Writing Programs conference in New York City.
Five Writing Center Peer Consultants attended the Rocky Mountain Peer Tutors Conference in Boise, Idaho.
Six Theatre students competed in the Irene Ryan Acting Competition and participated in the American College Theatre Festival in Laramie, Wyoming.
The Speech/Debate team represented LCSC in college tournaments in Portland, Tacoma, Seattle, Walla Walla, and Colorado Springs.
Seven Communication Arts majors had papers accepted for presentation at the Northwest Communication Association conference in Coeur d’Alene.
The LCSC Jazz Band received the Outstanding Award in the Open Division at the Lionel Hampton Jazz Festival.
Personnel:
Professor William Johnson, Professor of English, retired after 27 years of teaching, service, and scholarship at LCSC.
Professor Sean Cassidy was chosen to be the Distinguished Visiting Professor at Huafan University in Taiwan in Spring 2008.
Professors Sean Cassidy and Patricia Keith were awarded the LCSC International Club Enlightenment Award for 2008.
