LCSC's enrollment is up more than 9 percent!!!!!

Lewis-Clark State College obliterated its all-time enrollment mark with a record 3,940 students enrolled for the 2008 fall semester, according to the college’s 10th day report.
LCSC’s enrollment is a 9.1 percent increase over last year’s record of 3,612 students enrolled in the fall and also marked a 16.1 percent growth in the past two years. The college also shattered its record for full-time equivalency at 2.804.4, compared to 2,649.67 a year ago.
“We have worked very hard to develop a menu of cutting-edge programs delivered in myriad ways in order to appeal to a broad audience of college-bound students,” LCSC Dean of Student Service Andy Hanson says. “This fall’s numbers reflect that effort and speak well of the value of an LCSC education.”
The college continues to show impressive growth and set numerous enrollment records this fall, including highs for freshmen direct out of high school, freshmen overall, residents, concurrent enrollment, and minority students.
“We’re thrilled that our upward trend continues!” LCSC President Dene K. Thomas says. “This record enrollment is in keeping with our goals for the college. LCSC is on the move and continues to be a smart choice.”
All state schools are required to file 10th-day reports to the State Board of Education. All school enrollment figures are based on the numbers on the 10th day of school. The 10th day of classes at LCSC this fall was Monday, Sept. 8.
Thomas says she is particularly pleased with the numbers of freshmen who enrolled directly out of high school, an increase of 19 percent from a year ago.
“I’m very pleased that students have chosen us; we will continue to work hard to serve them well,” Thomas says. “Our growth is a reflection of the reputation of the college and the quality education we offer with our top-notch faculty.”
The 10th-day report showed record numbers in minority head count, which totals 428. That is a 4.6 percent increase from a year ago and is nearly 11 percent of LCSC’s student population.
LCSC also saw records in pre-college enrolled applicants (up 63 percent from last year), resident enrolled applicants (up 25 percent), and returning enrolled applicants (17 percent).
“This record setting year and the sustained enrollment increases that LCSC has enjoyed over the past several years are results of the hard work and quality of our faculty, staff and programs,” LCSC Provost Tony Fernandez says.
Thomas and Fernandez say LCSC’s selling points of low teacher-to-student ratio, low tuition costs, a highly qualified faculty, and the college’s friendly learning environment all played major roles to help the college see a dramatic enrollment increase this fall when most other institutions in the Pacific Northwest are seeing little to no growth.
The college also had sharp increases in international students with 149 enrolled. LCSC’s Native American enrollment also is up 18 percent.
LCSC’s Natural Science Division saw the biggest percentage increase in students compared to last fall. The division is up 13.8 percent, while the Humanities Division is up 9.8 percent.
Five of LCSC’s six academic divisions all saw increases while the other one had a decrease of only four students. The Business Division continues to be the most popular division with 566 students, followed by Nursing/Health Sciences with 488 and Education at 478.
