AmeriCorps will tackle jobs on Oct. 25
The Lewis-Clark Service Corps’ AmeriCorps members from Lewis-Clark State College will tackle a variety of public service projects on Make A Difference Day on Oct. 25 and is looking for more volunteers to help out.
Make a Difference Day is a national day of service to help others where volunteer projects are carried out that can make a difference in someone’s life or in the community. Created by USA WEEKEND Magazine, Make A Difference Day is an annual event that takes place on the fourth Saturday of every October.
Some of the projects AmeriCorps members will participate in are “Huts for Mutts,” which is a doghouse building project and the houses will be auctioned to benefit the Lewis-Clark Animal Shelter, yard and gutter clean-up for homeowners, clothing and car seat drive to benefit the Infant/Toddler Program and the Hope Pregnancy Center in Grangeville, a pumpkin carving event for members of the special needs community in Moscow, a “Scare Hunger Away” food drive in Lewiston, which is being coordinated by the AmeriCorps Alumni Association, and soup bowl paintings by LCSC students to benefit the Lewiston YWCA’s Soup-port Our Shelter fundraiser.
“Make a Difference Day is just one national day of service our community participates in,” said Charlette Kremer, director of the LC Service Corps. “It’s a way we can band together to meet critical needs in the community.”
Anyone interested in participating in one or more of these projects can contact Anita Brown, Marci Miller or Destinie Roberts at the Lewis-Clark Service Corps Program at (208) 792-2084
Lewis-Clark Service Corps is based at Lewis-Clark State College and oversees a statewide AmeriCorps program which places tutors and mentors to work with at-risk students, coordinates the Community Warriors Volunteer Center on campus and works with faculty and community partners to offer service-learning opportunities.
