LC students place at State BPA competition
Lewis-Clark State College's Business Technology & Service Division sent five students to Boise to compete in the Business Professionals of America State Leadership Conference and came away with 10 top 10 finishes at the event, held on March 5.
Tristan Mullis of Bonners Ferry took top honors in CISCO Systems Administrator competition and also was fifth in computer security.
Karen Hunter of Orofino placed second in both Advanced Office Systems & Procedures, and Legal Office Procedures.
Denise Key of Lewiston was second in Keyboarding Production, eighth in Fundamental Accounting, and ninth in Computer Network Technology.
Josie Hancock of Clarkston was second in Database Applications.
Lee Ryan of Kooskia was fifth in Fundamentals of Web Design and sixth in Computer Network Technology.
"The conference is the culmination of a school year's worth of business workforce education, fundraising, and training which members of the local chapter of BPA at LCSC have received," LCSC chapter advisor and BTS associate professor Sue Gudmunson said.
BPA is a national organization for high school, college, and middle school students preparing for careers in business and information technology. The organization's activities and programs complement classroom instruction by giving students practical experience through application of the skills learned at school. BPA acts as a cohesive agent in the nationwide networking of education and business and industry.
BPA is contributing to the preparation of a world-class workforce through the advancement of leadership, citizenship, academic, and technological skills. BPA is assisted in this endeavor with financial support from corporations and companies including Shell, Thomson South-Western, Microsoft, and Marshalls, who sponsor BPA's National Leadership Conference and member career building programs and scholarships.
