LCSC to hold GED graduation on Friday night
Lewis-Clark State College will hold graduation for its 2010 General Education Development (GED) class of 67 students on Friday at 7 p.m. in the LCSC Activity Center.
The class will include students who have completed requirements for the GED certificate at LCSC sites in Grangeville, Kamiah, Lewiston, Moscow, Orofino, and Weippe.
This ceremony, which is free and open to the public, culminates a rigorous seven 30-minute exams that measure the essential academic skills and concepts of a traditional high school education. Students who complete the program have demonstrated higher order thinking skills, problem solving ability, and reading and writing skills.
Tests cover the core curriculum areas of writing, social studies, science, literature and the arts, and mathematics. They also measure an adult’s ability to understand and apply information, evaluate, analyze, draw conclusions, solve problems and express ideas and opinions in writing.
Donna Callahan, Director of Adult and Family Education at LCSC, will welcome graduates, their families and friends following the traditional processional and National Anthem. LCSC President Dene Thomas, State Representative Liz Chavez, Idaho State Board of Education member Don Soltman, and Dean of Community Programs Kathy Martin will provide greetings. Marshall Black from the Lewiston Rotary Club will present $1,000 scholarships to two GED graduates.
Two students, Mary Jo Price and Anna Volpi, will share in giving the commencement address. Callahan will present the Class of 2010 for the conferring of certificates by President Thomas.
Following the commencement ceremony, a reception is planned for graduates, their families and friends.
