LCSC Alumni Association announces award winners
Idaho State Rep. Liz Chavez and Warrior Athletic Association President Scott Baldwin have been named the recipients of the Outstanding Alumni Award for 2010 by the Lewis-Clark State College Alumni Association.
The association announced its award winners this week and they will be honored at the LCSC Alumni Awards reception on Wednesday, May 5, at the Sage Baking Company, located at 1303 Main St. in Lewiston. The event begins at 6 p.m. The event is free and open to the public.
The Outstanding Alumni Award is presented to alums that have enriched the lives of others through their generous gifts of time and talent, their involvement with civic, charitable and social causes, and their ability to inspire.
Chavez was a teacher in the Clarkston School District before retiring. She is finishing her second term in the Idaho Legislature and has been active in social causes as well as a supporter of Warrior athletics. Baldwin played baseball at LCSC and currently works at D.A. Davidson in Lewiston. He also started the Jackson's Pay It Forward Foundation with his wife Staci and son Jackson, who passed away from cancer at the age of 9.
The Excellent in Education Award goes to Connie Ellis, an elementary school teacher at Centennial in Lewiston. Ellis was named the VFW Teacher of the Year for the state of Idaho this year and is retiring in June. This award honors superior achievement in the field of education. The recipient serves as a role model and sets standards of excellence to which others can aspire.
Milton Lee Pritchard Snyder is the winner of the Marion Shinn Award for Lifelong Achievement. The award recognizes alumni who have a distinguished record of achievement and or service in their specialized area of endeavor, thus bringing honor and recognition to the college. Snyder, 80, recently published an autobiography "Maybe Milton Should Work in the Woods." He says his days at the college changed his life.
Brad Cannon is the winner of the Aletha Pabst Award, which pays tribute to someone who is not an alumnus, but has made significant contributions to Lewis-Clark State College. Cannon, who is the owner of Cannon's Building Material Center, is active both on the LCSC Foundation Board and the Warrior Athletic Association, where he is the past president.
Rising Star (Young Alumni) Award goes to Christina Wegner and Jon Munkers. The award recognizes significant contributions by an individual in their field of endeavor, whether through professional achievement or community service. The recipient is aged 40 or under, and sets an inspirational example for future young alumni. Wegner graduated in 2008 with a Bachelor of Science in Social Work and works as a child welfare professional. Munkers, who earned Bachelor of Science degrees in Chemistry and Human Biology in 1998 from LCSC, is the Assessment and Monitoring Division Manager with TerraGraphics Environmental Engineering in Boise.
Joni Mina is the winner of the Spirit Award for Extraordinary Alumni Service, which is presented to an individual that builds pride and spirit on campus and who consistently demonstrates extraordinary loyalty, commitment, dedication and service to LCSC and the community. Mina serves as Faculty Senate Chair at LCSC and is an associate professor in the Business Technology & Service Division where she teaches legal assistant/paralegal classes.
Outstanding Coeur d'Alene Alumni Award is presented to an alumnus of LCSC-Coeur d'Alene who has enriched the lives of others through their generous gifts of time and talent, their involvement with civic, charitable and social causes and their ability to inspire. This year's winner is Jerry Baltzell, who graduated in 1995. Jerry is the University of Idaho’s Business Manager of the Center for Advanced Microelectronic and Bimolecular Research in Post Falls, where he is responsible for all business operations, including grant administration. He also was part of the steering committee for the Inland Northwest LCSC Alumni Chapter.
