International Friendship Circle and Pow Wow is Friday
The International Friendship Circle and Pow Wow, sponsored by International Programs at Lewis-Clark State College, will be held Friday, July 23, at 11 a.m. on the lawn near the LCSC Library and Administration Building.
The event features a pow wow by Nez Perce Tribe members at 11 a.m., followed by a potluck luncheon at 12:15 p.m. The potluck is open to all but anyone participating is asked to bring a dish. Cups, water, plates, napkins and utensils will be provided.
The pow wow will feature drumming, singing and dancing, and water and shade will be available for the free event. Pete Wilson, a Nez Perce Tribe member, will serve as emcee and talk about the significance of a power wow. Audience members also will have the opportunity to join the round dances.
Dancers and drummers for the event include Bessie Wilson, Maynard Wilson, Phillip Allen, Bessie BlackEagle, Tony Smith, and Fern Slimjohn-Smith. Allan Marshall and Corbett Ellenwood will also drum during the event.
Children performers include Justine Slimjohn, Tasha Smith, Leona Smith, Shana Allen, Brittany Allen, Sakota Allen, Destiny Allen, and Tiyapo Campbell.
The potluck will follow the dancing on the lawn near the International Programs Office and north side of the Student Union Building.
