LCSC to hold tree planting ceremony today

Lewis-Clark State College students and officials will celebrate Arbor Day with a special tree planting ceremony on Friday, April 29, at 2 p.m. at the southeast corner of the LCSC library.

LCSC President J. Anthony (Tony) Fernandez and ASLCSC Student Body President Jonelle McCoy will plant an Autumn Gold Ginko tree

The planting celebrates the culmination of the first year of work by the new LCSC Arboretum Planning Team. Headed up by assistant professor Elizabeth Skendzic, the Arboretum Planning Team and students have inventoried and cataloged every tree on campus, created a web site at www.lcsc.edu/arboretum/, identified diseased and damaged trees, started a Xeriscape research project site on the west side of the Tennis Center, and aided in the planning of a Living Legacy project with the graduating class of 2011.

This project will take place over the summer and will replace 16 damaged Black Ash trees with an international tree grove near the east entrance to the Student Union Building.

The ceremony is open to the public.
