LCSC Alumni awards social is Wednesday
The Lewis-Clark State College Alumni Association will hold its annual awards celebration on Wednesday, May 4 at the Sage Baking Company, located at 1303 Main St. in Lewiston, starting at 6 p.m.
The event is free and open to the public, but those planning to attend are asked to RSVP to the LCSC Alumni Relations Office at either (208) 792-2151 or alumni@lcsc.edu
Each year, the Alumni Associations honors individuals, both LCSC alums and non-alums, who have made an impact at LCSC or in the community.
This year's winners include Mary Lou Gruber and Chip Damato as the Alumna and Alumnus of the Year, respectively. The awards are presented to alums who have enriched the lives of others through their generous gifts of time and talent, their involvement with civic, charitable and social causes, and their ability to inspire. Gruber was the assistant controller at LCSC for 20 years and is now retired. Damato is the director of business strategies at Inland Cellular.
The Marion Shinn Lifelong Achievement Award recognizes alumni who have made outstanding contributions to the college and community through long-term dedication and service. This year's winner is Dick Hilding, a retired educator who lives in San Jose, Calif.
Lewiston's Mike Thomason, who recently retired from Avista in Lewiston, has been chosen the winner of the Aletha Pabst Award, which pays tribute to someone who is not an alumnus but has made significant contributions to Lewis-Clark State College.
The Rising Star Young Alumni Award recognizes significant contributions by an individual in their field of endeavor, whether through professional achievement or community service. The recipient is aged 40 or under, and sets an inspirational example for future young alumni. Laynie McClain and R. Richard Sampson, are the Young Alumna and Alumnus of the Year winners, respectively. McClain works for Cherry Creek Mortgage in Lewiston, while Sampson is a master patrolman with the Pocatello Police Dept.
Greg Godwin is the winner of the Excellence in Education Award, which recognizes superior achievement in the field of education. The recipient serves as a role model and sets standards of excellence to which others can aspire. Godwin is the superintendent for the Asotin School District.
Spirit Award for Extraordinary Alumni Service award goes to Ell Mae Keatts, an LCSC Nursing professor, and Ken Sanman, a controller at The Golf Club at Black Rock at Rockford. The award is for individuals who build pride and spirit on campus and who consistently demonstrates extraordinary loyalty, commitment, dedication and service to Lewis-Clark State College and the community.
