Residence Life to hold 1/2 Day of Community Service

Lewis-Clark State College's Residence Life is holding a "˝ Day of Community Service" on Aug. 20 at 8 a.m.-noon to help various agencies and organizations in the Lewis-Clark Valley.

The event allows both LCSC students and anyone else who is interested become connected to the community. It's a great opportunity to meet students while helping the area where they go to college.

The volunteer projects included filling backpacks for elementary students as part of the YWCA Back to School Backpacks program, helping paint a house close to the college campus, work on a special Art Walk project in Downtown Lewiston for the LCSC Center for Arts & History, and go door-to-door in neighborhoods around the college collecting canned food donations for a food drive to help Community Action Partnership. More information on the four projects is below and there also are some other small projects available.

Anyone interested in participating can pick a project or have one assigned to them. To volunteer e-mail reslife@lcsc.edu with a project preference.

For more information on the event, contact Debbie Kolstad, LCSC Director of Residence Life, at either dqkolstad@lcsc.edu or at (208) 792-2053.

YWCA Back to School Backpacks - Volunteers will pack backpacks for elementary students, including papers, markers, crayons, etc and sort according to grade level. All supplies provided by the YWCA. Each year the YWCA gives out over 700 backpacks to children in need in our community.

Make an IMPACT! There is a home close to campus that desperately needs to be painted through the Interlink Volunteers in Clarkston. It is a small one-story house and all supplies will be provided. Imagine what 30 or 40 people can do in a few short hours to improve the community and a family’s home.

Flex You Creative Flair~ Work with LCSC's Center for Arts & History on a special project for the upcoming Art Walk in Downtown Lewiston. We are looking for people who are artistic or creative. Students who participate will brainstorm, decide on the project and plan it out to completion. The Art Walk takes place at the end of September.

Community Canned Food Drive - Volunteers will go door-to-door in the neighborhood surrounding the College to collect canned food donations to support Community Action Partnership - a local community service agency. We will advertise in the local newspaper so neighbors know about the food drive.
