LCSC Presidential Investiture is Friday at 2 p.m.

Note: President Fernandez will be the only one to wear regalia.

The investiture J. Anthony (Tony) Fernandez as the President at Lewis-Clark State College will take place at 2 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 23, at the LCSC Williams Conference Center.

The expected hour-long event serves as the formal installation for the 15th President in the history of college, which was founded in 1893.

Fernandez has been at LCSC since 2003 when he was named Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs, he then became Interim President on July 1, 2010 when then-President Dene Thomas left to become President at Fort Lewis College in Durango, Colo. After a national search, the Idaho State Board of Education named Fernandez as her successor at LCSC on March 2 of this year.

The investiture, which is free and open to the public, begins with a procession led by the Lewiston Firefighters Pipes and Drums. LCSC student Shawnee Scott will sing the national anthem, and the colors will be presented by the Army ROTC Raider Guard. Chet Herbst, Vice President for Finance and Administration at LCSC, will serve as Master of Ceremonies.

There will be greetings to President Fernandez from Idaho Lt. Gov. Brad Little, University of Idaho President M. Duane Nellis, Ruth Lapsley, Chair of the LCSC Faculty Association, Travis Osburn, Chair of the LCSC Professional Staff Organization, and Kathren Wilson, Chair-elect of the LCSC Classified Staff Organization. Other greetings will come from Andy Ridinger, President of the Associated Students of LCSC, Lisa Huddleston, President of the LCSC Alumni Association, and Mike Ripley, President of the LCSC Foundation.

Richard Westerberg, President of the Idaho State Board of Education, will preside over the investiture of Fernandez and present him with the Presidential Medallion.

After a speech by Fernandez, the LCSC Saxophone Quartet will perform, and will be followed by the investiture guest speakers, Patrick Fernandez and Richard Fernandez, brothers of the LCSC President. The Saxophone Quartet will then provide recessional music.

Following the ceremony, a reception will be held in the basement of the Student Union Building where refreshments will be served.
