LCSC's Botha is named Educator of the Year

Marika Botha a professor in the Education Division at Lewis-Clark State College, has been named the College/University Educator of the Year by the Idaho Alliance for Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance (IAHPERD).

Botha was honored at the IHPERD State Convention, which was held in October.

Botha, who teaches health and kinesiology classes at LCSC, was nominated for the award by the LCSC Kinesiology Department to the IHPERD Board, which made the selection. She has developed 18 courses during her LCSC career as well as 10 courses for the on-line curriculum.

Botha, who was born in Namibia, Africa, has taught at LCSC since 1985. She has served as president of IAHPERD as well as co-creator and Director of American Alliance for Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance's national video contest and Readers Theater. She also has served as President of the National Sport Academy.

Botha has received numerous awards and grants for course development that highlight practice, hands-on experiences for students. She also has presented at more than 50 international, national, and regional conferences and workshops.

IHPERD’s mission is to promote and support leadership, research, education, and best practices in the professions that support creative, healthy, and active lifestyles.
