LCSC library announces VALNet changes
LEWISTON, Idaho - The LCSC Library has established new borrowing privileges and policies that will allow continued community access to LCSC's library collection. According to the Washington Idaho Network (WIN), the Valley Automated Library Network (VALNet) will be leaving the WIN consortium this spring. The departure will affect how the public checks out materials from the Lewis-Clark State College Library. The new policies and borrowing privileges have been reviewed and accepted by LCSC campus administration including the President and the Provost/Vice President for Academic Affairs. LCSC will be issuing new LCSC Library Guest cards to VALNet patrons beginning in March of 2012. Community patrons will need to apply for new LCSC Library Guest cards. Individuals 18 years or older must provide photo identification and a piece of mail from a utility or phone company that identifies a residential address. High school students must provide a student identification card and a LCSC Library Guest card application signed by a parent or guardian. Registered LCSC Library Guest patrons must present their LCSC Guest card at the Circulation Desk to check out items. LCSC Library Guest patrons may check out 2 items at one time. (1 media and 1 book, or 2 books). Fines and fees will be charged for all overdue and lost items. The replacement cost for a lost LCSC Guest card will be $1.00. LCSC was one of the founding members of the VALNet library consortium more than 20 years ago. The LCSC Library separated from VALNet in 2003 when it joined the University of Idaho Library and the Molstead Library at North Idaho College to form the Northern Idaho Academic Libraries (NIAL) database. Membership in WIN has allowed for seamless patron access to materials, allowing VALNet patrons to check out items from the LCSC Library using their VALNet card.
