LCSC GED graduation is May 4
LEWISTON, Idaho - Graduates of Lewis-Clark State College's 2012 GED Class will assemble Friday, May 4th, at 7:00 p.m. in the LC Activity Center to celebrate another milestone in their journey. The class will include 30 students who have completed requirements for the General Educational Development certificate at LCSC sites in Grangeville, Lewiston, Moscow, and Orofino.
The ceremony culminates a rigorous 7 1/2-hour battery of exams that measure the essential academic skills and concepts of a traditional high school education. Students who complete the program have demonstrated higher order thinking skills, problem solving ability, and reading and writing skills.
Tests cover the core curriculum areas of writing, social studies, science, literature and the arts, and mathematics. They also measure an adult's ability to understand and apply information, evaluate, analyze, draw conclusions, solve problems and express ideas and opinions in writing.
Donna Callahan, Director of the Adult Learning Center, will welcome graduates, their families and friends following the traditional processional and National Anthem. LCSC President Dr. Anthony Fernandez, Dr. William Goesling from the Idaho State Board of Education, State Senator Dan Johnson, and Dean of Community Programs, Kathy Martin will all provide greetings. The Lewiston Rotary Club will present a $1,000 scholarship to two exceptional GED graduates. Three students will share in giving the commencement address. Following the commencement ceremony, a reception is planned at the Activity Center for graduates, their families, and friends
