Legal symposium features workshops for small businesses

LEWISTON, Idaho - A legal symposium at Lewis-Clark State College on Friday, June 22 will offer four workshops designed for potential or existing business owners or managers. The symposium is sponsored by the Region II Idaho Small Business Development Center at LCSC and takes place from 8:15 a.m. - 12 p.m. in Sacajawea Hall rooms 112 and 115. The workshops offer help for all types of businesses, including retail, service, professional, inventors and manufacturers.

The workshops are divided into two sections. New Business Topics includes a workshop called "Business Formation", with a presentation by attorney Edwin L. Litteneker, who will discuss sole proprietorships, LLC's, partnerships, and corporations. "Intellectual Property Protection" will be presented by attorney Samuel T. Creason, who will focus on copyrights, trademarks, and patents.

The other section, Existing Business Topics, offers two additional workshops. "Contracts" features attorneys David R. Risley and Tecla E. Markosky, who will explain releases, leases, warranties, hiring agreements, and other contracts. A "Succession Planning" workshop will be led by attorney Christopher J. Moore, who will discuss passing a business to the next generation, selling, key employees, and contingency plans.
