Exhibition opening at CAH offers a dynamic exploration of wood as art and large linocuts

LEWISTON, Idaho - The LCSC Center for Arts & History (CAH) will open four new exhibits to the public on Friday, September 7 from 6 p.m. - 8 p.m.; Branching Out: Wood Art from the Inland Northwest, The Cambium Collective presents Artifacts from the Hochs Excavation, Len Zeoli: Ancestors & Archetypes, and Laurel Macdonald: One Linocut a Day.

The main floor galleries feature mixed media art pieces from the Cambium Collective Inland Northwest wood turning group and a solo exhibit from Len Zeoli. These exhibitions focus on the interpretation of wood as art and reflect on the cultural, historical, and functional aspects of wood. The second floor galleries provide vibrant linocuts from Moscow artist Laurel Macdonald that focus on themes of travel, scale, realism, and color.

According to contributing artist Ed Krumpe, wood possesses "an inherent beauty that can be fully revealed through the sculpting process."

The exhibit is sponsored by Heidi and Greg Linehan, Associated Students of Lewis-Clark State College, and Castellaw Kom Architects; with support from US Bancorp, the Idaho Commission on the Arts, and the National Endowment for the Arts.

This will be the first exhibit following the Americans With Disabilities Act (ADA) upgrades to CAH's entryways, restrooms, and elevator. CAH Director Lisa Jones said it is also expected that the ongoing sidewalk and street paving projects will be completed at the entry points to the Center to allow for easier public access.

The exhibition opening is also an opportunity for the public to meet the new associate director for the LCSC Center for Arts & History, Vilas Tonape, who started his position at CAH on August 23.

Admission to the opening is free and refreshments will be served.
