LCSC professor and saxophonist Bill Perconti releases new CD

Saxophonist and Lewis-Clark State College Professor of Music Bill Perconti has recorded a CD entitled Women Composers and Their Music for Saxophone. According to Perconti, the CD is an exploration into contemporary fine-art music, featuring seven world premier recordings of works by Lera Auerbach, Libby Larsen, Elena Ruehr, Judith Shatin, Joan Tower, and Nancy Van de Vate. University of Idaho pianist Kay Zavislak and Gonzaga University guitarist Paul Grove join Perconti on the CD that includes music for saxophone and piano, guitar, electronics, and solo saxophone.

Perconti has recorded numerous world premiers on 10 CDs since 1994 as a soloist and as a leader of the Alloy Saxophone Quartet, the LCSC Chamber Players, and the Idaho Saxophone Trio. In addition to recording with the Iowa Brass Quintet and Patrick McNally of the Spokane Symphony, Perconti has recorded on Centaur Records, Albany Records, and Vienna Modern Masters labels, as well Arizona U. Recordings. The Bossak-Heilbron Foundation (NY), the Washington Artist Trust, and the National Endowment for the Arts have supported his recordings. The LCSC Jazz Band, under Perconti's direction, is a nine-time winner at the Lionel Hampton Jazz Festival, where Perconti has won two Outstanding Soloist Awards.

Zavislak received a DMA from the U. of Michigan. Her competition awards include 1st prize at the Ladies Music Club of Seattle competition, 2nd prize at the All-Toholu Piano Competition (Japan), and 3rd prize at the William C. Byrd International Piano Competition. Zavislak has appeared in public performances throughout the U.S. as well as in Australia, the Czech Republic, Germany, Hong Kong, Italy, and Japan.

Grove has performed nationwide as well as in Canada, Russia, Brazil, and India. His numerous accolades include a Jacob Janis research grant, a Presser Scholarship, and the Graduate College Fellowship at the U. of Arizona. Grove was also the first guitarist to win the Peabody Concours Competition.

On Centaur Records, Women Composers and Their Music for Saxophone was supported by Lewis-Clark State College, the Idaho Commission on the Arts, the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Steiner Electronics, and private donors. Centaur Records is one of the oldest and largest independent classical labels in the U.S. In addition to North America, Centaur distributes in Europe and the Far East. Centaur CDs are also sold through all major digital download and streaming sites such as Amazon, ITunes, and Emusic, as well as through the classical specialty sites. The CD will be included in the Database of Recorded American Music operated by New World Records.
