What we loan |
Can I check out Government Documents?
No.
Government Documents must be used in the Library. If you
need a
special publication for a class, please contact Samantha
Thompson-Franklin,
208-792-2557.
Many government publications
are available online, however, and can be accessed via the
Library
Home Page.
For further information,
please ask at the Information
Desk 208-792-2236.
|
Can I check out journals or magazines?
No.
Journals and other periodicals must be used in the Library. If
you need a
special publication for a class, please contact the
Reference Librarian at the
Information Desk.
You can also use
our electronic databases that provide access to full-text
articles
from your office or home. Please stop by the Information Desk for
further information, or send an email to
refdesk@lcsc.edu
|
Can I check out CDs?
Yes.
Up to five CDs may be checked out for 14 days at a time.
We also have CD
players available for use in the library.
|
Can I check out videos and DVDs?
Yes. Up to
five videos or DVDs may be checked out for 14 days
at a time. If
the video or DVD you want to borrow is not on the
shelf, you may place a
hold on it, and we will contact you when
it is returned.
|
Is
there a limit to how many books I may have at a time?
There is a limit of
20 for books in the General Collection, but there
is a limit of 3
for Pacific Northwest books and a limit of 5 for videos,
CDs, and DVDs. If you need to extend these limits in order
to use
the materials for classes, please contact the Circulation
Supervisor,
208-792-2830. Books from the General Collection will be checked
out to faculty for 180 days (approximately 6 months). Please make
sure that you return your books, or contact
the Circulation Desk
to renew them.

How to Borrow Material |
How do I get a library card?
Your campus ID
card functions as your library card. You will need
to come to the Library to
activate your card.
|
Where do I go to check out material?
Bring items you
would like to check out to the Circulation Desk on
the first floor. You must
have your library card with you in order
to check out items.
|
How long may I have an item?
This varies depending on the item. Most items from the circulating
collection will be checked out to
faculty for 180 days. Some
items
may be renewed.
|
Someone else has borrowed the book I need to use. How
can I get
it?
If a book (or other item) is checked out, you can place a hold on
it. When the
item has been returned, we will hold it for you
and
call you to let you know it is available. The Reference
Librarians
can show you how to place a hold on an item in the catalog.
|
Why did the library worker say he would "charge" a book
to me?
Will it cost money?
"Charging" is library jargon meaning that a book
is being checked
out to you. It does not cost you anything to check out
an item.
|
Where do I go to
place an item on Reserve?

Items You Already Borrowed |
How can I renew material?
There are several ways to renew items. The easiest is to call
208-792-2396, with your library card in hand, and renew over
the phone.
Or come to the Circulation Desk with your library card.
Make sure
that you renew your books before or on the due date.
If your books
are overdue, contact the Circulation Supervisor,
208-792-2830, for assistance.
|
|
I got a notice that an item I've borrowed has been recalled. What
does that mean?
Another patron has identified the item in the catalog
and would
like to borrow it. The recall notice establishes a
new due date,
usually a week from the date of the recall notice.
The item will
be overdue eight days after the recall notice. Items
that have
been recalled may not be renewed. Fines on
recalled items are $2
a day, with a maximum of $20. ALL PATRONS
(students, faculty,
staff, and community members) are subject to recall
fines! |
Where do I return items?
You may return items inside the Library at the Circulation Desk.
There are also two book drops outside the Library that are checked
daily. One book drop is in the Library parking lot, and the other
is
to the right of the double doors that lead into the building.
|
How can I find out what library materials I have borrowed?
Bring your library card to the Circulation Desk, and a list can be
printed for you. Or, contact the Circulation Supervisor,
208-792-2830, to request the list be sent to you via campus mail.
|
|
Lost/Overdue Items |
Oops, I lost a book. What should I do, and how much will
it
cost?
If a book is lost, you should report it to the Circulation Desk,
208-792-2396. The replacement cost is $80 per item, which
covers
the replacement costs, including staff costs. Please
contact the Circulation Supervisor, 208-792-2830, to make arrangements.
|
Oops, my book is overdue. What should I do and how
much will it
cost?
When you check out a book from LCSC, the due date is marked
in the back
cover. If you discover that an item is overdue, return
it
immediately. If you need an overdue item for an extended period
of
time, please contact the Circulation Supervisor, 208-792-2830.
|
How will the Library get in touch with me if I have overdue
materials?
An overdue notice will be mailed to you to inform you which items
are
overdue or being recalled.
|
I just received an overdue notice for a book I know I
returned.
Who should I talk to?
If you have received an overdue notice, and you think you have
returned
the item, call the Circulation Desk, 208-792-2396. Ask
to have the
shelves checked. If the book is on the shelf, we will
check it in
and remove the "black cloud" from your account. |
