Here are some resources for your research in Nursing:

Journal articles           

CINAHL - (Cumulative Index to Nursing and Allied Health Literature).  Provides citations to over 1600 nursing and allied health journals, dating back to 1982.   

Health Reference Center Academic (A Thomson Gale database) -  Provides articles from 750 sources, plus citations from an additional 2200 journals in medicine, health, nursing and allied health areas. Funding-short.gif: Funded By LiLI Graphic

Health & Wellness Resource Center (A Thomson Gale database) - General, less academic health information than found in Health Reference Center Academic.  It includes full-text of articles, newletters, and pamphlets, as well as reference works such as The Gale Encyclopedia of Medicine. PubMed  - Covers the fields of medicine, nursing, dentistry, veterinary medicine, the health care system, and the preclinical sciences.  Provides access to 9 million citations in MEDLINE and Pre-MEDLINE (with links to participating on-line journals), and other related databases.  Provided by the National Library of Medicine, part of the Federal Government's National Institutes of Health.

PubMed provides access to bibliographic information which includes MEDLINE as well as:

  • The out-of-scope citations (e.g., articles on plate tectonics or astrophysics) from certain MEDLINE journals, primarily general science and chemistry journals, for which the life sciences articles are indexed for MEDLINE.

  •  

  • Citations that precede the date that a journal was selected for MEDLINE indexing.

  • Some additional life science journals that submit full text to PubMedCentral and receive a qualitative review by NLM.

Academic OneFile  - a general journal index covering many disciplines, not just Nursing.  Contains full-text of some articles.    Funding-short.gif: Funded By LiLI Graphic

Other Science Sources:

BasicBIOSIS - Covers life sciences, environmental sciences, and other related disciplines.  Provides citations to 350 core life sciences journals, as well as meeting papers, reviews, and newspapers.

PsycINFO - Contains more than 1.8 million citations and summaries of journal articles, book chapters, books, dissertations and technical reports, all in the field of psychology. Journal coverage, which dates back to the 1800s, includes international material selected from more than 1,700 periodicals in over 30 languages.

Education Journal Sources:

ERIC  - Contains citations and abstracts from almost 1000 education-related journals.  Citations to the contents of ERIC Documents, including conference papers and curriculum suggestions.  The LCSC Library has most recent ERIC Documents, full-text, on microfiche.

LCSC Library Catalog - provides information about the materials owned by the LCSC Library and other North Idaho Academic Libraries, including North Idaho College and the University of Idaho.  Also has a link to WIN Libraries, so you can search Gonzaga University and Whitworth College catalogs.

WorldCat - A catalog of items held at libraries throughout the world.  Many of these materials can be borrowed through inter-library loan.

Google Books - Info from their Website:  "Just do a search on Google Book Search or on Google.com. Cochrane Library Abstracts - A free collection of abstracts from the Cochrane Library, provided by McMaster University, Canada.

Clinical Trials (Cancer) - Information on clinical trials from the National Cancer Institute, National Institutes of Health.

Database of Abstracts of Reviews of Effectiveness (DARE) - A database of quality assessed reviews, provided by the University of York, United Kingdom.

Locally Created Critically Appraised Topics (CATs) - From the HealthWeb site, a collection of Web links maintained by medical librarians.

National Guideline Clearinghouse - A comprehensive database of evidence-based clinical practice guidelines and related documents produced by the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ) , in partnership with the American Medical Association (AMA) and the American Association of Health Plans (AAHP).

Evidence-Based Medicine Tutorials - From the Lamar Soutter Library, University of Massachusetts Medical School.  Learn how to define a clinical question, translate an information need into a searchable question, select the type of study to answer your question, and do a literature search.

Medline Plus - Consumer health information from the National Institutes of Health.

Healthtouch Online - Consumer health information, including information on vitamins, supplements, and natural medicine.

USA.gov - A search engine for government Web pages, with an emphasis on the Executive Branch of the Federal Government.  Includes information from the National Institutes of Health, National Cancer Institute, and the Centers for Disease Control.

GPO Access - Searchable database of Web pages, with an emphasis on the Legislative Branch of the Federal Government.   Includes transcripts of testimonies by experts in Congressional hearings.  Provided by the Government Printing Office.
