Roberta Watts - 1994 Class

Roberta is a BSN, RNC, RN to BSN, 1994.  Works as a Nursing Informatics Decision Support Analyst.

Dear Barb,

How are you? I enjoyed reading about your sabbatical to the Old Continent. Did you visit any hospitals that had bed side computing established? If so, how was it working for the nursing site?

We have decided to change our base system from an old Germer-Alley product to a full Star HBOC base system.  We were too dependent on outside consultants to write our reports etc. After, the Star implementation, we are going to try to bring up Care Manger again.  They had been working on the system for 1 1/2 years and still were having problems with the HL7 interface engine.

I am enjoying my position as Decision Support Analyst.   A lot of facilities are expanding their reporting capabilities to include clinical-financial reporting and they value the clinical expertise of a nurse. I currently support the Quality Management team which consists of three RN's that build pathways,l assist the PI teams, and QI projects.  Also, any any potential changes in services are supported by a financial and clinical impact analysis.  I am certainly practicing nursing in a different way than I imagined 8 years ago.
