What is Campers Insurance?

Campers Insurance is a limited health and accident insurance for participants in "camps" or other special events that are not associated with regularly scheduled classes (for example, summer sports camps for youth, field trip discovery experiences, math or science camps, etc.) The coverage that is provided to the participants or volunteers is limited and should be considered secondary to any other group insurance policy or prepayment plan in force for the covered person.  The policy covers only initial treatment expenses that are not covered by the participant's or volunteer's health insurance, such as deductibles or co-payments, and is not intended to provide full coverage.

All Lewis-Clark State College departments that facilitate a camp or day activities are encouraged to obtain this insurance for the participants.

How is Campers Insurance paid for?

Coverage is arranged through Lucy Loewen in Administrative Services and premiums are paid from the registration fee or program funding source.

How should Departments request Campers Insurance?

Departments should contact Lucy Loewen in Administrative Services at (208) 792-2240 or lkloewen@lcsc.edu at least two weeks in advance of the camp to review the camper insurance coverage instructional letter or and forms listed below.

The Camper Insurance Forms includes:  the Program Insurance Request,  Completed Activity Report, and Acknowledgement of Risk and Waiver of Liability.

The Program Insurance Request is completed by the department with the department information, including contact person's name and phone number, the camp name, date (s) of activity, estimated number of participants (specify if including volunteers), signature of person authorizing insurance request, department head name and phone number, and the budget number to be charged.  After completion, form should be faxed or e-mailed to Lucy Loewen in Administrative Services at (208) 792-2077 or lkloewen@lcsc.edu.

The Completed Activity Report is completed by the department after the camp or activity has taken place to inform Risk Management of the exact number of people attending, including volunteers, budget number to be charged and a signature to authorize the expenditure or attach a copy of the claim voucher to pay the premium.  After completion, form should be faxed or e-mailed to Lucy Loewen in Administrative Services at (208) 792-2077 or lkloewen@lcsc.edu.

"Informed Consent Agreement to Participate" is giving to each participant or volunteer and must be returned to the department conducting the activity to be kept on file for the departments records.

Claims must be reported to Administrative Services.  The claim form is included with forms packet.  The participants own health insurance will be billed first for any claims.
