How Do I Obtain Small Property Insurance?
Small property (Inland Marine) insurance is an optional
coverage similar to the Major Property Policy, but offers a lower
deductible of $50.00 per occurrence. Departments wishing to insure items
under the optional coverage can do so by contacting the Administrative
Services office. Each item to be insured must show its
replacement value, serial number, and/or State tag number, if assigned. This
coverage is used to insure property subject to theft or breakage, or
property that is frequently transported.
To add or delete items at other than the
annual renewal, complete the request for Inland Marine (IM) Insurance form
and submit to the Administrative Services office. This form is available
electronically,
Insurance Request Form (MS Excel required), and all departments who are
currently enrolled in the IM insurance program are sent the yearly
renewal request form annually. Send your add or delete IM request form back to
Administrative Services as an attachment to
e-mail. Coverage becomes effective when Administrative Services submits the schedule for IM
coverage to the State Office of Insurance Management.
The following items are not eligible for
Inland Marine coverage:
- Real Property or Buildings.
- Automobiles or vehicles licensed for the
road.
- Mobile equipment of any nature (mobile
equipment is any motorized equipment not licensed for highway use).
- Consumable Properties (office supplies,
etc.).
- Property held in inventory (items
discovered missing after an inventory check).
