Driver's Training and Vehicle Use
 Requirements


Prior to driving a Lewis-Clark State College owned vehicle the following requirements must be met:

A. The operator of a LCSC owned vehicle, or private vehicle must possess a valid operator's license. Possession of this license shall be adequate proof of ability to drive unless the driver has restrictions. Revocation of the operator's license must be reported to the Administrative Services office.

B. Individuals who operate a college-owned, leased or private vehicle on a regular basis while conducting college business are encouraged to attend a defensive driving training program. Departments and units are encouraged to require defensive driving training for individuals prior to the operation of the vehicles.

C. All drivers and passengers must be LCSC employees or authorized participants in the sponsoring department’s course, program, or event that is requiring the use of a college owned vehicle. No passenger shall be allowed that is not conducting official State business as defined by the State of Idaho Controller’s Office use of State vehicles policy.

D. Defensive driving training is mandatory for individuals involved in an at-fault accident while operating a motor vehicle for college business. Individuals have six months to complete training following the at-fault accident and may continue to operate a motor vehicle for college business during that time unless determined otherwise by their department or unit. If an individual does not attend the training during the six-month grace period, driving privileges for college business will be revoked until the training requirement has been satisfied. Please contact Administrative Services for information on defensive driving training courses.

E. All authorized drivers of college 15-passenger vans must complete a college van safety-driving course, as sponsored by Administrative Services, before they operate a 15-passenger van. Please contact Administrative Services to take the course.

When renting a 15-passenger van from an outside agency on Lewis-Clark State College business, the authorized college vehicle driver must complete the van safety-driving course.

Vehicle Use
Prior to the use of a college-owned vehicle, a driver must meet the following mandatory requirements:

• Provide a current driver’s license
• Take the 15-passenger van safety course, if applicable
• Take the defensive driving course, if applicable
