Q: What is the cost of tuition?
A: For current costs, please go to www.lcsc.edu/admissions/intl/lcsc_tuition.htm

Q: What kind of visa do I need to study in the U.S.?

A: If you are planning to be a full-time student, you need to get an F-1 student visa.

Q: What do I need to do to get a student visa?

A: If you intend to apply for an F-1 student visa to enter the U.S. to study, here are some things you should know before going to the American Embassy or Consulate in your country.

Be prepared to answer questions. These are the most common questions:

  • How are you going to finance your study in the U.S.? Bring your bank statement or sponsorship letter to prove you can support your studies.
  • What ways can you guarantee that you will return to your country? What ties do you have to your country, such as property, assets or business, offer of a job upon return, family ties, social ties such as political office, membership in local societies and clubs.
  • What are your educational plans in the U.S.? For example, "I plan to take one year of English language, then transfer to a community college, then to a university with a major in business."
Here are some other things to consider.
  • Your interview will be in English. Practice beforehand.
  • The interview will be short, so make a good first impression.
  • Bring documentation with you to the interview to prove your claims.

Q: Can I study part time?
A: All F-1 student visa students are required by immigration to study full-time. If you are not on a student visa, please discuss your situation with an International Programs Office staff member.

Q: How many hours do I need to attend to be a full-time student?
A: College students must attend classes at least 12 credit hours a week. IIE students must attend class at least 18 hours a week.

Q: What do I need to do to apply?

A: Go to the Application Check List on this website and follow the directions for applying to LCSC, IIE or both.

Q: When is the deadline to apply?
A: There is no deadline to apply. But if you are applying from outside of the United States, we recommend that you apply early so that you can get your visa and make your travel plans.

Q: What kinds of students attend LCSC and IIE?
A: The average age of our students is 22 years. We have students on our campus from 30 different countries. Some are studying English in preparation to enter LCSC or to learn more about the American culture and language. Others are enrolled in academic or technical programs.

Q: Does your college offer scholarships to international students?
A: LCSC offers a limited number of scholarships to international applicants who have good academic records. These Presidential Scholarships are available only to new LCSC applicants who plan to enroll in a college program. If an IIE student receives a scholarship, it will begin when the student enters a college program.

Q: Can I work on campus?

A: Yes, if you are eligible. As a full-time student on an F-1 visa, you would be eligible to work on campus up to 20 hours a week while school is in session and 40 hours a week during vacation periods, provided you maintain your visa status while working. People on tourist visas are not eligible to work.

Q: What if the dorms are not available?
A: The Lewis-Clark State College dormitories may not be available every semester, especially Fall Semester, due to increased enrollments. If the dorms are not available, you may live in an American homestay or an apartment.

Q: How do I apply for an American homestay?
A: Fill out a homestay application and send it to us with a $100 housing placement fee. We will place you with the best possible host family. Priority is given to students studying at IIE.

Q: How do I apply for a dormitory?
A: Go to http://www.lcsc.edu/reslife/ to fill out a residence hall application and send it with a $200 deposit.

Q: Can I transfer credits from my old college to LCSC?

A: Most credits will transfer. LCSC will evaluate your transcript and give you a list of credits that will be accepted.

Q: Can I take courses at LCSC while in the IIE?

A: Students currently enrolled in our top-level courses may be eligible to take regular college courses in combination with English language courses only under certain conditions. The student must make an appointment with the Coordinator of International Student Services or the Director of IPO to be advised of the requirements. Taking college courses is not admission to LCSC.

Q: What is the TOEFL requirement for college admission?
A: A minimum TOEFL score of 500 on the paper based test, 173 on the computer based test, or 61 on the internet based test is required if your native language is not English. No TOEFL score is necessary to enter IIE. The college does not require SAT scores of international students.

Q: Can I be accepted to LCSC without a TOEFL score after completing IIE?

A: If you complete 16 weeks at our top level with a B+ (3.3 GPA) average, you can be admitted to LCSC without a TOEFL score. However, you do have to pass all the other requirements of the college.

Q: Do I need to send an original documents or can I fax them?
A: If time is short, you can fax everything except transcripts and financial documents. Many documents can be sent on line.

Q: What is the weather like there?
A: The weather in Lewiston is quite pleasant. Most of the year, it is warm and dry. It seldom snows in winter but it does get hot and dry in the summer. The springs and falls are beautiful.

Q: Can LCSC and IIE set up a special program for a group?
