"My career in international education began 30 years ago in a high school in Africa. More recently, I taught for a semester in Southeastern China. I love meeting students from all over the world. Students are always welcome to join me at my home or in my favorite activities like rafting, skiing, fishing, and camping."

Monica Johnson, M.A.
Administrative Assistant/Instructor

"I am the office manager as well as a teacher, and I love both jobs! I have lived and taught in Morocco, Senegal, Guinea, South Korea, and Japan. The world is my hometown! I love seeing students blossom and grow when they are here. As a teacher I can help students with academic issues and as the office manager, I can help with whatever other issues students may face. And I am here if students just want to chat. Come to IIE so we can become friends!"

International Programs Assistant

I am Japanese, and I came to the U.S. as an International student. I graduated from LCSC with a Business Administration major. When I graduated, I asked myself, “What do I want to do for the rest of my life?” My mission statement became, “I will use my knowledge and experience to help people.” My knowledge and past experience living and working in America can help International students. That is why I am here. The best thing about my job is that I receive a lot of enjoyment from my work.

Meet the IIE (Institute of Intensive English) Teachers

Our teachers are fully qualified (all have at least a Master’s degree in English, TESL or a related subject) and experienced (they have an average of 13 years teaching experience in the ESL classroom). Their classes are challenging but fun. The IIE students have consistently praised their knowledge, teaching ability, and kindness. Our teachers are:

"I was born and raised in Lewiston. I have been teaching at the institute here for more than 14 years. I really love my job here because I enjoy meeting students from everywhere in the world. I especially like teaching English grammar and TOEFL classes. Lewiston is a great place to study English. I like to read, work in my garden, and go for walks by the river. I hope I can meet you here!"

"I grew up in northern Idaho, and I received my Master's Degree in Teaching English as a Second Language (TESL) from the University of Idaho in 2006. My passion is traveling and international education, and I have studied abroad in Germany and New Zealand. I love learning about other cultures, and working with international students lets me do just that! In the past, I taught in intensive English programs in Washington state and Arkansas. I also spent last year teaching English and American culture at a high school in Germany as a Fulbright Teaching Assistant. I'm excited to be back in Idaho and working with students coming to the U.S. to study or wanting to study abroad!"

Heather Boydell, M.A.
English, University of Idaho

"I live in Moscow, Idaho and have a Master’s degree in Teaching English as a Second Language as well as two bachelors degrees — one in English and one in Spanish. As with all of our teachers, I have several years of teaching experience, with an emphasis on writing. Having studied in Spain and lived and worked in South Korea, I know what it is like for international students here. I feel very sympathetic to all their concerns about living in a foreign land and adjusting to life overseas. I am happy to be working at the IPO office and with the warm, friendly people at LCSC"
