Transfer Credits
In
accordance with policies approved by the State Board
of Education, the acceptance of credits from
community or junior colleges is uniform for both
certification and transfer purposes. Normally, no
more than 70 semester credit hours from a regionally
accredited community college or a junior college may
be transferred toward the 128 semester credit hours
required for the baccalaureate degree. A maximum of
96 semester credit hours from a four-year school may
be applied toward the 128 semester credit hours
required for the baccalaureate degree.
Credit earned in any institution of
higher education will be evaluated only upon receipt of the student’s
official transcript, provided a grade of "D" or higher is recorded on an
official transcript. Credit earned from any accredited institution will be
accepted toward the satisfaction of degree and credential requirements.
Transfer credit is not limited to those courses that precisely parallel
courses offered at Lewis-Clark State College. Credit is usually granted for
all courses completed at other institutions holding regional accreditation
(Middle
States Association of Colleges and Schools, Northwest Association of Schools
and Colleges, North Central Association of Colleges and Schools, New England
Association of Schools and Colleges, Inc., Southern Association of Colleges
and Schools, and Western Association of Schools and Colleges) which reasonably correspond to one of the
various programs offered by the college. Students who have successfully
completed a lower division general education core curriculum at an
accredited two- or four-year college which meets the minimum state standards
as listed in the Idaho State Board of Education Articulation Policy section,
will not be required to complete additional lower division core
requirements.
Students who transfer from a United
States academic regionally accredited institution with an earned Associate
of Arts (A.A.) or Associate of Science (A.S.) degree have met the
Lewis-Clark State College lower division general education requirements.
Students transferring from any United States Academic regionally accredited
institution who have completed their general education core courses (but do
not have an Associate of Arts or Associate of Science degree) and have their
transcript noted “Core Certified” by the sending institution have met the
Lewis-Clark State College lower division general education requirement. The
Office of Admission will evaluate the transcripts of degree-seeking
students. The student is responsible for meeting the individual
requirements of the selected curriculum.
After a transfer student has been
admitted to the college and enrolls for classes, a summary of credits
transferred from college-level courses at other accredited institutions are
recorded on the Lewis-Clark State College permanent transcript.
Divisions evaluate transfer credit that applies toward the major.
Credit is not accepted in transfer for courses deemed to be development in nature. Grade points received at other institutions are
not transferred and the cumulative grade point average is computed only for
courses completed at Lewis-Clark State College.
Credit for educational
experience in the armed services is evaluated based
on recommendations from the American Council on
Education.
Transcripts are legal
documents, and as such, once they are received they become the property of
the college and cannot be copied or returned to the applicant/student.
Formula for completing LCSC’s lower division General Education Core
Requirements before transferring:
There are several degree programs
that require specific core classes that can count both as general education
core requirements and program requirements. Please review this list as you
plan to complete your core requirements at your current college to make the
transfer process more seamless. Your core requirements should include a
college math, communications course and one year of English composition.
Contact names, along with phone numbers and email addresses of academic
