Hi! I am Pasang
Yangjee Sherpa. I am from Nepal. Nepal is in the Himalayan
kingdom. Many people might have heard about Mt. Everest. That is
where I am from. I wanted to climb Mt. Everest but it is only a
dream until now!!!!! Nepal is not all about mountains, there are
hilly regions similar to the Palouse here and arid plains. Although
Nepal is half the size of Idaho, it has diverse landscape, which is
also the habitat for several species of plants and animals. I was
born and raised in the capital city, Kathmandu which is little
crowded but the people are friendly.
I started
dreaming of studying in the United States since I was in the seventh
grade. I used to imagine for hours how my life would change if only
I got to study in the United States. My dream served as the
encouragement for me to work hard. As soon as I graduated from my
high school, I started to look for colleges and I found LCSC.
At LCSC, I am on
the Debate team, Social Science club, I write for “The Pathfinder”
(school newspaper) and tutor. All of these activities have helped
me build my interest on studies and focus more on my major which is
Social Science. I am taking history, political science,
anthropology and speech classes. I find it more interesting because
of my instructors and my friends who are not only encouraging but
supportive too. I like to talk a lot. But if you meet me, I might
not be as talkative….
When I am free,
I like to listen to music from India and surf net. I also like to
shop a lot. I don’t joke a lot but when I do it’s different. You
need to meet me for that.
Why I chose Lewis-Clark State:
Good environment
and friendship can help students succeed in their studies. Everyone
can hope for a quality education, but it is the friendliness of
people which cannot be found everywhere. LCSC was not the only
college I applied for. I had applied to other colleges which were
ranked among the top colleges in the United States. I was attracted
to LCSC more because of the quick and direct contact they made with
me even when I was in Nepal. LCSC helped me step by step to reach
where I am today.
Even after I
came to LCSC, the friendliness of people has not decreased. Being an
International student, cultural shock and homesickness was obvious
but I did not feel anything like that. Instead I was always close
to my home. Now, I have friends from around the world. My professors
have known me well and encouraged me to get into the right track of
pursuing a suitable course for a suitable career. I received
financial aid which was helpful too.
This is what I
had expected and I am happy because I got what I had dreamed of from
LCSC!
